The trauma that a child suffers when separated from a parent can cause a child to suffer from anxiety and post-traumatic stress. They are more vulnerable to feelings of fear, anxiety, anger, sadness depression and guilt. They may have multiple caretakers that can result in emotional withdrawal, failure in school, delinquency and risk of incarceration.
The Village of Promise uses caring and accepting mentors, provides a safe place, and uses innovative, quality programs to empower youth to excel in school and lead healthy lives.
For over 10 years Village of Promise’s (VOP) “collective mentoring” model creates long-term, consistent relationships with caring adults, who listen, encourage, and support. The journey is long from fear, sadness and depression to trust, engagement and hope.
We are there for the long term.
Our mission is to break the cycle of trauma and to inspire hope in youth who have been impacted by parental absence or incarceration.
Working together we are stronger-nothing is impossible when we collaborate. We deal with complex lives and emotions. One set-back or victory does not define a person. Each step along the way provide tools for resilience.
Village of Promise welcomes any child needing an emotional rest from the isolation and trauma suffered when separated from a parent.
Every child deserves access to experiences and opportunities that help them grow and thrive.
It takes a village to keep a promise. Commitment to community and inspiration through mentorship is what drives success for our youth.
Village of Promise does not promise quick fixes – it takes time and commitment to be there long-term through thick and thin.
We positively impact the daily life of children through mentorship. We take stable committed adults, create a safe environment, provide high-quality programs and unique experiences to give our kids an opportunity for success.
“VOP teaches me to be a leader and to never stop believing. It has taught me to always have hope and how to bounce back and thrive. I mostly love how I can always depend on my village to have my back and to help me.” – Shyann
